Hitchhiking out

West towards Ambato, Latacunga, Riobamba, Quito

Walk the 3 km westward out of town on the main road (Avenida de las Amazonas). You'll find a PyS gas station there, also known as "Gasolinera Sanchez". Try to stop a car from the main road or ask in town until you've got a ride to Ambato, Latacunga, Quito, or Riobamba.

Accommodation and Sleep

One wildcamping spot is under the San Francisco bridge (the old one) on the other side of the river. There's a bench and many travelers pitch their tent there for a night or two.

Other useful info

Baños is a very, very popular tourist spot, mostly known for its "Swing at the End of the World" at the Casa del Arbol. The town lives of tourism, so living off little can become a challenge when everyone sees you as a walking wallet. It also rains a lot. There's free WiFi at both squares in town. The "off-season" is in May/June, before the northern hemisphere gets their summer holidays and when it's also rather cold for a place pretty much at the equator.
