The Easter Island is an island in the Pacific Ocean, about 3,500km west of mainland Chile. It is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world.

The only settlement on the island is Hanga Roa, on the west side of the island. One paved road links Hanga Roa to the rest of the island, and several smaller dirt roads branch out to the different archeological sites.

Almost all of the sites can be reached by a combination of hitchhiking and walking. Hitchhiking is very easy. Locals and other tourists are all willing to give you a ride, and usually the first car will stop if you're standing on the side of the road. You can also ask other tourists for a ride at the attractions themselves.

The capital is Hanga Roa.
