Mesr

Mesr is a very small settlement near an oasis in the desert of Iran. It is located some 50 kms from the city of Khur. The city consists of a few houses in one street and a mosque. If you're interested in seeing a really small village like this, it is definitely worth the trouble of getting there. If not, it's probably best to skip it.

Getting in and out

To get in, turn to the road that goes to this small village. The junction is around 10 kms west of Khur and continues in one straight line to Mesr. This road is pretty bad and riding it kind of feels like riding a rollercoaster :) There is not much traffic though, maybe around 5 vehicles a day on this road. But there is a little schoolbus that takes the children of Mesr to and from school in Khur every working day, so if you're lucky this bus might stop for you, but you have to make a small payment to get on it. But it was fun to be in a schoolbus with 15 Iranian children all staring at you :) Also in summer there are some tourists that want to see the tranquility of Mesr and therefor some tour-operators might operate tours to this village. When you're at the junction and waving your hand (don't thumb in Iran!) their Jeeps might stop as well. To get back, just walk out of the village and hope for someone to leave in their car. It might be a long wait though...
