Head to the far east of town, to a suburb called Singing Arrow. There's an excellent on ramp that's super long and has a good shoulder.

I waited only about 20 minutes, but this may differ for you. Many people waved, but be warned Albuquerque is full of tramps, drug addicts and other random people that may or may not harm or hinder you. If you can, catch a ride to Moriarty, which is 40 miles down the road. It's basically a truck stop town, and you'll have reasonable luck in hitching with the truckers. I arrived in Moriarty and asked around in Lisa's Truck Center, I was there for 30 minutes and no one kicked me out, so I definitely recommend that place. Good luck.
