take Take a tram till "Holzmarkt", I think Line 2,3,5 heading there and go from the stop outside of the city in direction of the river Dreisam. There yo are turning right and on the redlight you can ask the cars for your destination.

For heading north the next gas station is "Mahlberg" right before Offenburg and heading south is no gas station before the highway leads to France (Mulhouse, Besancon, Lyon) but there is one before Basel (Switzerland).
