Kyiv (Київ) ((Russian: KievКиев(Kiev), German: Kiew), is the capital of Ukraine.
Kyiv is a very big city, however it has a very efficient metro (underground) system, especially if you're hitching west or east.
__NOTOC__
Hitching out
North towards Kharkiv
Get the metro to Boryspolska station (Rus: БОРИСПОЛЬСКАЯ, Ukr: БОРИСПIЛЬСЬКА) (the last one on the green line). From here there is a huge roundabout - walk around the outside of the roundabout until you see the turn off to Kharkiv (Ukr: XAPKIB in Ukrainian, Rus: ХАРЬКОВ). Walk down the road, and you'll probably see a lot of people also hitching there (there was were around 40 last time I did it in the middle of winter), walk to the back of the queue and try to look like you're going a long distance - most people will only be going 30 or 40 kilometres (having a conspicuous backpack helps). Cost to get there: 50 kopecks (1 metro token, which is about 0,10 $) <!--Last verified: Jan 2006-->
East towards Dnepropetrovsk (M04)
Take the metro to Vydubychi (ВИДУБИЧІ) station and walk to the car market. Try hitchhiking there. Cost to get there: 50 kopecks <!--Last verified: Apr 2006-->
