Hitchwiki is an online hitchhikers sharing-point with information about good hitchhiking spots in more than 200 numerous cities, hitchhiking culture in different countries, general know-how about what to pack, what to eat and how to stay safe. There are hundreds of pages about how to leave cities, often including maps. On Hitchwiki you can also find profiles of hitchhikers, blogs, photos, videos and hitchhiking stories.
The wiki principle of cooperatively sharing knowledge that has turned Wikipedia in a huge success has turned out to be a great way for creating a knowledge source about finding ways to let people share unused space in cars.
The milestone of 1000 articles exemplifies the comeback of the hitchhiking culture. Each month thousands of people hitchhike all over the world; in many countries it is still a common way of getting around. It is part of a vibrant culture and a preferred way of traveling for many travelers. In August a hitchhikers gathering in Paris drew together over 150 hitchhikersat the Eiffel Tower, an event that was partly coordinated through Hitchwiki.
