In Spain it is very important to talk to drivers. Walk up to drivers at gas stations and ask them where they are heading to. Knowing some sentences in Spanish helps you a lot.
The phrase ''Bas a ...?'' (are you going to ... ?) is an excellent starting point.
It seems waiting at ''autopista'' toll stops, or ''peajes'', isn't allowed.
