A good strategy for hitchhiking northeast is to take a local bus ''marshrutka'' from the taxi stand at the eastern end of Chavchavadze St., where it joins the main coastal road, to the coastal town of Kobuleti about 20 km north. Get off only at the northern end of first (southernmost) stop in Kobuleti, howeverfollow the northeast road for a couple of hundred metres, as and just after the town railroad tracks there is quite long and frustrating to walk out ofan interection with a sign for Samtredia.
