'''Potsdam''' is the capital of the [[Brandenburg]]. It is located 20 kilometers southwest of [[Berlin]]. <!-- Hitchwiki is not a tourist info site! Potsdam is one of Germany's largest castle, pleasureground and park areas. There are mainly three parks in the city: 'Potsdam-Sanssouci', 'Potsdam-Neuer Garten' as well as 'Park Babelsberg'. 'Schloss Sanssouci', 'Neues Palais' as well as many-many surrounding buildings (such as the 'Chinesisches Haus', the 'Belvedere auf dem Klausberg' or the 'Roman Baths') are to find in 'Park Sanssouci'. 'Schloss Cecilienhof', the 'Grünes Haus' or the 'Marmorpalais' are located in 'Neuer Garten' along 'Heiliger See' in the norhtern portion of the city. 'Schloss Babelsberg' together with 'Schloss Glienicke' are close to 'Glienicker Brücke' on Bundesstraße 1 in the direction of Berlin-Wannsee. All three park areas are to reach within 20 minutes walking distance from the Potsdam DB main train station.
[http://www.spsg.de/ Stiftung Preussische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg] gives a lot of additional informations.
[http://www.ufa.de/ UFA] is since more than eighty years the local film studio company with TV as well as cinema productions, located in Potsdam-Babelsberg.
[http://www.hff-potsdam.de/ HFF] 'Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen Konrad Wolf' is located right next to the UFA-studios.  -->
Potsdam is home to the first official hitchhiking spot in Germany. It is located on B2 'Leipziger Straße' ('Michendorfer Allee') next to the Potsdam DB main train station - which leads to 'Rastanlage Michendorf' on 'Berliner Ring' (E 30/ A 10).

To reach [http://tank.rast.de/standorte/suche/detail.html?ID=254 Rastanlage Michendorf] on 'Berliner Ring' (E 30/ A 10) via A 115, take Suburban Train S7 to 'Nikolassee' Station (four stops), leave the DB station in the direction of 'Wannsee', walk along 'Borussen Straße' and 'Spanische Alee' (only two minutes) to the petrol station as well as rest-area [http://tank.rast.de/standorte/suche/detail.html?ID=135 Grunewald West]. From there it should be very-very easy to reach 'Berliner Ring' and 'Rastanlage Michendorf'. Build a cardboard sign with 'Ring', 'Michendorf' or even your final destination on it. If you plan to go eastward into Poland or westward to 'Ruhrgebiet', go to 'Michendorf' first. The lift 'Spanische Allee' - 'Michendorf' should not take longer than ten minutes.
