Belize is a small country in Central America. It borders to Mexico in the north and Guatemala in the west.
Hitchhiking in Belize did not appear difficult but expect is very logical and appears to be very good, even locals do it. There are plenty of speedbumps, so each time you walk out of a town it's better to thumb at one of these. Some hitchhikers say that a small token payment may be exchanged. Public transport is inexpensive but quite slow considering the size of the country.  People in Belize are very friendly and many of them are proud of their country. Try to show respect to Belize and it's citizens and you'll find out that this tiny country has a lot of things to offer.

== Trivia Jalacte Border Crossing (Illegal by this moment) ==: Our experience was hitchhiking into Hopkins after catching the bus to the intersection with the Southern Highway. The distance into the sleepy little town is too far to walk and the local bus into the town is quite infrequent. It is likely that you will come across locals at the shack on the corner who are waiting for the bus. They noted that it was commonplace to try to hitch a ride while waiting for the bus, whichever comes first. : There is very little traffic out of the town, catch the bus south to Placentia. From Placentia there is a ferry to Mango Creek. (note: Placentia at the end of a long, thin peninsula.) : From Mango Creek walk from the ferry to the main road and stick out you thumb. We managed to get a ride with a school bus to the intersection with the Southern Highway to Punta Gorda.
December 2016 experience: In El Chulito and Shamcore tried to legally cross the border with Guatemala via Jalacte in December 2016.They hitchhiked from Punta Gorda to Jalacte without any real difficulties. The traffic is poor, but they got rides from one village to a next one and reached the destination point in about 2015 the 3 hours, which is not a bad timing. The road was completely paved and in great condition. Seems like the south to Guatemala should be works are almost finished. It possible About 5kms before Jalacte there's customs where the guards first ask where you go. El Chulito and Shamcore asked about a legal way to cross over now but quite hardexit Belize and enter Guatemala and got bad news. Rode a construction worked bus The only way to end of leave the road, then hiked 4km country legally is to find an only police officer in Jalactewho owns an exit stamp. Then a very muddy horse trail for about an hour Actually he's only authorized to Santa Cruzput exit stamps only in guatemalan passports, didn't look but it seems like he can be convinced to help travelers as well. But the only problem is to enter Guatemala legally, because there was 's no any kind of customs or control when entering the country. This means that it's impossible to get an entry stamp and stay in the country on a road cross borderlegal basis. No People say that Guatemala doesn't really participate in making a legal border post, so probably not very legalcrossing point because of a territorial conflict between two countries. Otherwise I found Belize very hitchable and wouldLet've made it from north s hope that in 2017 travelers will be able to very south in one daycross the border legally. At the moment you can only enter Guatemala at your own risk, which is never advisable by HitchWiki community.
