A good place to travel in northern or southern direction on A5/E 40 is [http://www.pfefferhoehe.de/ Rasthof Pfefferhöhe] near [[Alsfeld]] on 'Grünberger Straße'. If you have a 'Semesterticket' of the University of Marburg, you might want to consider taking the train or bus to Alsfeld, although it should be possible to get to Alsfeld hitchhiking along the B62 within one hour. According to googlemaps there is a McD's restaurant at this place as well.
==== Araltankstelle - Aral service station ("Aral-Petrol station Tankstelle") ====
An easy way to hitchhike out of Marburg in southern direction is the Aral - Petrol station near Südbahnhof (the train station in Frauenbergstraße). It doesn't have a lot of traffic but if you are persistent or good at talking to people, you will eventually get a ride. To go there, you can either walk(about 30-45 minutes from the city center), or take a bus from Rudolphsplatz (e.g. lines 1, 4, 6, (7), ...). Get out of off the bus at "Südbahnhof". There´s a footbridge to Cross the railway and motorway (B3) using the other side pedestrian bridge, then turn left (South, out of town) and follow the rails and B3. The street name is road named "Am Krekel". Walk toward south, out of along the townmotorway. After about 3 minutes, you can see the blue sign of a petrol station (Aral) on you your left. There are several fences and smaller paths leading to parkings and one (I think it´s painted Usually the door in white) leading to the petrol fence around the service station.It might take some minutes as there is open, if not too much traffic, but you´ll find someone to pick you up..just climb across it.
This spot is good for southern directions as heading South (Gießen, Frankfurt,Switzerland, etc.) and West (Cologne, etc) but it is also worth considering when heading East and even North, since the other options for these directions are really poor.. In this case, you can also try to go need to change direction somewhere around Gießen this way and change directions towards north. That might be , which is a little tricky thoughbut doable.
