From the main street, west of the train station (Slovenska cesta, Dunajska cesta), take buses 6, 8 or 11 in direction north. Get off at the stop "Smelt", at the "World Trade Center" tower. Walk further on towards the motorway, then right after the fountain. You will see the road forking, the left lane going down to the motorway, the right lane going higher up. Stand with your sign in the middle between the two lanes. Even though it might look a bit unsafe, this is the most common spot and it's easy for a car to stop there (enough space and they see you soon enough to slow down).

Right after the fountain you will see the road forking, the left lane going down to the motorway, the right lane going higher up. Stand with your sign in the middle between the two lanes, or on the pavement next to the parking place entrance. Take bus no 27 towards "Letaliska" and get out at "Jarše". Continue following "Šmartinska cesta" about 400 meters and turn right from the traffic lights. There is a bus stop right after. Direction north-west there is the motorway E61/A2 towards Kranj through the Karawanken Tunnel (Slovenian: ''Predor Karavanke'') or over the pass over the border to Villach (slov.: ''Beljak'') in Austria and further on on the Tauern-motorway to Salzburg and over to Germany. It is the way that is used by most of those numerous Germans that go to the Croatian coast for hollidays.
 
This motorway E61/A2 starts from the Ljubljana bypass. The best way to join this motorway is from the street Celovška cesta, at the bus stop Šentvid (stand in the corner before the bus stop!!). Get there by bus number 1 (direction Vižmarje), 25 (dir. Medvode), or 8 (dir. Gameljne) from the city centre. If people who pick you up don't go as far as you like, you can get a lift as far as the first "Petrol" gas station on the highway (17km away) or the former toll station Torovo and keep hitchhiking there. There is also a petrol station at the Radovljica-exit (right before Bled) which is useful for getting into Austria. Another option is to get dropped at ~25km from Šentvid, there's a great hitchhiking spot [https://goo.gl/maps/d4kMoNHzbEYPRT9d7 here] on a ramp where there's enough room for a car to stop (GPS 46.267470, 14.339623).

In that tunnel there is an extra lane for cars - best option might be to stop use Koper sign and you can catch cars going from 3 different directions into then ask the tunnel, unlike the bus stop, where driver to drop you only cover one direction. After you turned right you should see the tunnel. My favourite place is at the end because cars have a lot of time to see you. If people who pick you up don't go as far as you like, you can go off at former toll station Torovo and keep hitchiking theremain Rijeka-Trieste road.

This service area is on the Ring around Ljubljana and is very well-served by a lot of long-distance drivers. To get there take a bus number 1 or 1B in direction of "Dolgi most" from the center. Get off the bus on the stop "Mestni Log" and walk back in the direction of the highway. When you reach the overpass look for a very small and steep pathway on your right, starting next to the overpass. Descend down to the fence, turn right and walk a few metres untill you reach an unlocked door. When you're on the other side of the fence, you should already be able to see the rest stop. Follow the pathway for another 100 m or so and there you are. There is a shower for 3€ and places for wildcamping around.

This service area is on from the center or the Ring around Ljubljana train station and is very well-served by a lot of long-distance drivers. Continue straight (You can hitchhike next to the bus takes a turn just before parking lot or walk down the stop "Koprskabarjanska" - don't follow it, go straight on!) on the street Cesta v Mestni log, after 2 minutes you will cross a bridge over a small river. Continue straight and cross the motorway over the bridge, and on the left side the service area is about 500 m away. == Sleeping ==
It is possible to sleep in the upside part of Tivoli park which is half an hour walking from the center of the city. It's not really a flat ground but if you search well you should find nice spots, clean, safe and quiet.
The best option in a walkable distance from the city centre would be park Tivoli. It is possible huge so you can easily find a good place to hide and set up your tent somewhere. People often drink there in the evening so it might be a good idea to sleep in Metelkova mesto www.metelkova.org (Metelkova street - Masarykova street)on or at least close to the grass between Jalla Jalla club and Tiffany clubforest, so nobody will bother you.

There is a market from Monday to Saturday at southern bank of river (vodnikov trg). It closes between 4-5pm and there is always a lot of fruit and vegetables after the vendors.
