There is no special need of practicing your Swedish since almost everyone speaks English there.
== Cities ==Take bus nr. 5 (towards Nättraby) from the city centre (Kungsplan) price 20 kr/2 euros.* [[Jump off at the stop "Motellet". I have been standing at this bus stop with a sign, 2 times and have never had to waitmore than 45 minutes. (Last time, march 2009, I waited 15 minutes.) I use to have a sign sayingSölvesborg or another town on the way beacuse sometimes people doesn't stop if you write Malmö becauseit's so far away. There is not so many service stations along E22 and some of them are off the motorway (in Karlshman and Kristianstad for example)but it's better to stand there than along the road. If you are going to Göteborg]]make sure that the driver is gonna* Halmstad* Lundtake off on the exit towards Göteborg because there is no service station before it. It use to take me 5 hours to hitch* between Karlskrona and Malmö* Nyköping. (200 km). Gothenburg is a bit trickier, you need to get to the "E20/E6" up north.* Stockholm
Crossing the border
Sweden is in the Schengen treaty. This treaty is rather well respected at the Finnish and Norwegian borders but has stricter regulations at the terminals where ferries from Denmark port, or at the bridge uniting Copenhagen with Malmö. Stricter control and special attention is usually applied to those who look like "being of another race". If you are unlucky, you might be made to strip during their search. The reasons of such strict control derive from the Sweden's specific economic situation (incl. high taxes on alcohol, tobacco, etc.) which attracts a number of smugglers, and a high-standard social security system which is a target of illegal immigrants. Keep in mind, though, that the personality check is not applied to everyone but only to some at random order so you have more chances to quickly cross the border than get stuck explaining to the officials that you are neither an illegal immigrant nor a smuggler.
