A hundred hitchhikers to take part in European Hitchhiking Week

On the 7th of August 2009 (7/8/9) and as long as a week before, hundreds of hitchhikers from all over the world will team up to hitchhike to Odesa, Ukraine, for the second europeean hitchhiking week !

This project shows that the hitchhiking community is still very much alive. Each year thousands of people hitchhike all over the world; and in many countries it is still a common way of getting around. The goal is to suggest that it could be a great human experience to pick up a hitchhiker, share their car and exchange stories. Hitchikers community wants to promote hitchike like a way of travelling.

"I love hitchhiking! It is my favorite means of transportation because it is a great way to meet some nice people and exchange stories. It is great to see how helpful people can be. Sometimes they even bring you as far as your front door or they may invite you over for dinner", says Fabrice Renucci, one of the initiators of the whole project.

Journalists are also invited to join the European Hitchhiking Day. They can team up with experienced hitchhikers, attend prior meetings that take place all over Europe from the 1st up until the 7th. They may also follow a hitchhiker and call one or several of them to receive live-updates and stories along the way.
