789, I want to hitch with Frankenstein
( Home - Ideas - Website Debate - Slogan Debate - Newsletters - Forum - Website - Coordination - List of things to do - Press Article - Coordination Group )

There is a new website and a forum please find it at http://hitchwiki.org/forum/?q=789 The website also has a lot of different possibilities to have a complete well-formated entry-page which is totally tweakable and configurable up to our wishes. Potentially we can change the whole layout of how this looks like, and that together with our own url would give us a very powerful website, with blogs, forum, photo's, a static entry page, and so on.

For the moment the start-page is just the forum-page, but a lot more is possible. What you see is only the beginning :) If anyone wants to get more involved in this, shout!

There is also a poll for the 789-location.

How the website should look like

Previous discussion

Here the previous discussion that yet has to be sorted. There is still a lot of usesful stuff here.

  • We really have to get a Forum to help people organize their rides. We can't rely on CS groups, they suck.
  • So,Do we need our own web site, or we stay on hitchwiki with all, can we find --MiSha18:23, 14 august 2008 (CEST)
  • Hitchwiki :
    • + easy for everyone to evaluate the project
    • + belongs to the hitchhiker community
    • + everyone can edit, it is the most horizontal way of organising
    • - a lot of thing isn't possible to do on that kind of site?
      • Any examples?
    • + we can integrate video + photo and also blog-postings.
    • + Already well known by search engines, so will lead more users to the site.
  • Own Web site :
    • + Yet we have already our own domain. www.the789project.com At the moment it is forwarded to this page.
    • + all in one !
    • + autonomy/responsibilities
      • You can have that on hitchwiki as well. Maybe just ask next time, instead of doing everything alone ;) There are some very motivated technical people around here ;)
    • + We're doing it for the world! We'll look more professional with a website.
      • to look More Professionnal isn't more useful... appearence will come after MiSha 19:53, 25 August 2008 (CEST)
    • - take a time to make it work
  • Others propositions : ?
    • We could have a Wordpress blog that can also have static pages. We can easily also integrate video + photo's and make it possible for anyone to post new blog-entries + link it directly to the wiki-pages. Plus, there are already Wordpress blogs integrated into this wiki but we could also do it external, see for a good example this site. --Robino 14:15, 15 August 2008 (CEST)
    • How about Drupal - a real CMS with tons of functionality installable as ready-made modules (including forums, wiki-style capabilities, user profiles, other community oriented features, media hosting, localization...), free & open source, active developer community, fast initial site setup, relatively painless to maintain even without programming experience (at least if the modules don't have to be customized too much). • Drupal is a really good cms sure but if we are going to it we need to have someone who really know Drupal php ect hmm... [here it's explain mush better than me]but when it's done it's perfect, anyway we have to know what functionality we want and need before starting develop on a specific cms xo
        • I wouldn't mind starting it off / helping with module tweaking but some more people would probably be needed as well for better sustainability Narnua 14:31, 20 August 2008 (CEST)
      • I opt for this. I could put up (or help) with putting up a drupal page. It has everything we would need. It is also easily accessible for non-nerds. Anyone of the top designers familiar with drupal design templates? This would rock the place... --Alex 15:53, 26 August 2008 (CEST)
      • I just set-up a Drupal page, just to see how it works. First impression, it seems there is are a lot of possibilities, but there needs to be a plan what we want. The drupal test page is can be found here. Daanovermars
      • We just set up a Drupal thingy, it's accessible at http://hitchwiki.org/forum, you can log in with your Hitchwiki account, or with OpenID. I'm happy to hear from anyone who wants to help out set it up properly. guakasite, wikitalk 20:59, 7 September 2008 (CEST)
    • What about Joomla ![1] in CMS too MiSha 21:00, 27 August 2008 (CEST)
    • The "own webpage" could be just a couple of pages for Public Relations, where the links to the pages that matter can be found:
      • A third party wiki (namely hitchwiki)
      • Another third party forum (PHPbb for example)
      • A different 3rd party blog platform (Hey, wordpress!)
      • See below...

No need to reinvent the wheel.

I'm totaly agree with you ! MiSha 13:47, 28 August 2008 (CEST)
  • What are the things we would want on a separate website? Suggestions:
    • Welcome page
    • Page for logistics
    • Blog-interface for latest updates
    • Integration with wiki-pages?
    • Integration with forum
    • Placeholder for media

Once again, edit if you want to add something.
