Angouleme is a city in the Charente, located in the south of France.

Hitchhiking out

South towards Bordeaux (N10)

From the center of town, find the Route de Bordeaux. Walk down it towards La Couronne until you reach the roundabout with the DIY store on it. turn right on that roundabout and then left across the N10 bridge. You will then be on a roundabout on the edge of St. Michel. To your left you will see an entrance on to the Nationale with space for cars to pull in. DO NOT accept rides from drivers who offer to drop you anywhere near Barbezieux because there is almost no traffic heading onto the N10 from the Barbezieux entrances and you will spend a lot of time waiting there.

South towards Périgueux, Nontron or Ribérac (D939)

From the center of town, take the S6 bus toward Soyaux, and stop at "Epagnac" bus stop (the D bus goes there too). Walk further on rue d'Epagnac, along the Avenue du General de Gaulle (which is the D939). Then walk up on the Avenue du General de Gaulle, and hitchhike just before the bus stop (on the other side, this bus stop is called "Général de Gaulle" and it's on the 25 bus line), there is place there for cars to stop.[1]

Accommodation and Sleep

In Angouleme, you can camp in the forest near the river on the Ile de Bourgines. Just ask people the way to the '"Musée de la BD"' and you will find it easily.
