Bielefeld is a city in the German Bundesland Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Despite a well-known running gag, Bielefeld obviously exists.

Hitching Out

East, West towards A2 (Dortmund, Hannover)

You have different options to go onto the A2

  • First: Take the tram towards Sieker and get out at the last stop. There behind the traffic lights in direction A2 (Ramp BI-Zentrum) is some space to stop cars. You can hitch a ride here along the whole Detmolder Strasse until the approach road to the A2 begins. Get out here and walk behind the traffic lights some 50m over the grass until you can stand on the hard shoulder.Here wave you thumb and hitch a ride to the highway. Best spot in Bielefeld, see map for closer information/clarification.

<map lat='51.999361573730525' lng='8.587017059326172' zoom='13' view='0' float='right' height='300' width='350'/>

  • Second: Take a train or bus to Herford, where you can take a bus to Alten Markt (many bus lines), then from there you can take the line #S5 to the Zoo. There you keep on walking a bit to the highway. In front of the bridge walk the right for the service station towards Dortmund, behind the bridge to the right for direction Hannover.
  • Third: Try to get to the A2 ramp of Bielefeld-Sennestadt in the south-east of the city. On the ramp for direction Oberhausen / Dortmund you find a lay-by where cars can easily stop. For direction north it's a bit harder, you find some traffic lights but cars normally drive up the highway quite fast and there's no big hard shoulder for cars to stop.
