Crossable rest areas in Austria

From Hitchwiki

In Austria many Rest area's on motorways have been designed a bit differently as in most European countries. There are service stations serving only one direction of the motorway and service stations opposite of eachother. However, most service stations are situated on one side of the motorway, yet accessible for traffic going in both directions of the motorway.

Less common are service stations located just outside a motorway exit. Although several maps will show them as service stations, they resemble the German Autohof.

Service stations serving two directions but situated on one side have specific advantages and disadvantages. On those it is easier to change the direction (+), but waiting for a ride or asking around less traffic will go the right way (-). A few "motorway service stations" outside (!) of motorway exits exist as well. These have similar advantages and disadvantages. They have an additional disadvantage: also local traffic uses these stations.

This is a rather complete overview of all service stations on Austria's motorways.
