Dunedin is a small coastal student city on New Zealand's South Island.
Hitchhiking Out

South
If you're traveling south you could take a bus to Mosgiel and simply walk to the highway. It usually won't take more than 20-30 minutes to get a ride.
- krischoon: I went to the end of Cumberland St, there is a fuel station you can ask there or stand on the right side of the St but for me both options didn't went well so I walked on to the motorway and stood on the lawn. It's a quite dangerous place but I god a right there.
North
Going North, towards Christchurch you might have some luck when you're still in the city.
- Guaka and amylin got a direct ride to Christchurch within less than 30 minutes.
- Alan Liefting got a ride within minutes on Great King St just before the Pine Hill Rd intersection. (map)
The best way to get to Christchurch or north is to walk up Pine Hill Road to the top to where the highway starts. There is space to pull over, and cars are travelling slowly after coming up the hill. It is very easy from here.
