Elbasan

Elbasan is a great place to hitch from and use as a half-way home. The road connecting the Albanian coast with Macedonia runs through the centre of the city and there is a direct road leaving Elbasan for Tirana.

East towards Macedonia, Pogradec and Korçë

From the stadium in the centre of town, walk out along Rruga Kozma Naska which soon joins with SH3. Cars will not be travelling very fast so just start trying to get a lift whilst walking. Ask for Librazhd which is about half the way to Lake Ohrid.

North towards Tirana and West towards Durrës and Vlorë

From the fountain roundabout next to the bus station, walk out along Rruga 11 Nentori (SH3) and start trying to get a lift. After a 10 minute walk, you are nearing the edge of the city and lifts should be easier to get. A direct lift to Tirana should not be too difficult to come by and to get to the coast, it will probably take several.
