Frankfurt/Oder is a town in the very east of Germany in the federal state Brandenburg on the Polish border.

It is not a good place to get stuck in. Slubice, its Polish counterpart, on the other side of the river is just as bad, if not worse. It's probably worth coughing up the euros to get you to Warsaw - if you're here, you've probably cocked up somewhere. Maybe you got here on the train from Berlin, and didn't want to pay the extra to go to Warsaw. If you do end up here though, then check out the graffiti, and try and make some friends to take you to the squat, which is almost a museum of graffiti.

Hitchhiking Out

To Berlin

Oh, you had a bad day! It takes a good 45 minutes to walk from FF/o station to the motorway onramp towards Berlin, supposedly a good spot. Tram or bus may bring you there even faster, but you have to study that on the spot because Fverhart doesn’t know.

If you want to go to Berlin, or generally direction West there is a great hitchhiking spot in Frankfurt (Oder). Take a tram nr 1 (direction Neuberesinnschen - it costs €1,20) get off at the last stop. Then walk some 100 m along Mühlenweg. You will see a petrol station. You can hitchhike at the exit of the station. It usually takes 10-20 m till somebody offers a ride. Viel Spaß!

To Warsaw

If you want to hitchhike to Warsaw, Fverhart can only say that this is very well possible on the border station. This border station is actually on the Polish side, because the actual border is in the middle of the river Oder, and well, it’s just located after the Polish shore, that was easier to construct. To get there on foot will take you for sure an hour, maybe 90 minutes, if you know the way. To get there, you shall take the tram line 1 (directen LEBUSER VORSTADT) and get out at the station MAGISTRALE (its very close to the McDonalds). Now you have to walk for a very very long time. First of all you have to cross the border via the city bridge and then head right on the street 1MAJA. After like 30 min you ll pass the BAZAR and take in like 300 meters the road which deverges from the street 1 maja on the right. the name is POWSTANCOW WIELKOPOLSKICH. Keep on walking on this street until another deverge will appear. take this deverge and keep on walking. after 50 min you ll rach the border station.

Even though this is a very long way and on the german side you could get very close to the highway brigde, ist not a good idea (PLUS its forbidden in germany) to do so.
