Guatemala is a country in Central America.

Guatemala can be hard to hitchhike, it depends on the places. The best way is to find a petrol station and talk to the customers. And when there is not, just stay on the main road, in a place where the car can stop and show your thumb. Be careful, many of the 4X4 and small vans are taxis, so they will stop (just say no, no and no).

Cities

towards antigua: from the city´s transport hub "trebol" on the panamericana you can start hitching on one of the gas stations or getting farther away from the center by bus or walking. its not dangerous as there is a lot of traffic and people.

towards salvador: you are in the urban are all the way to the point where the road begins to wind up the mountains. this is rich and safe neighbourhood. i was waiting quite a lot there and got a ride in a curve on the way up. going farther up by bus may increase your chances.
