Heredia is a city in Costa Rica.
Heredia is a university town ~20 km north-west of San José. It is the capital of the smallest province of Costa Rica.
Hitching Out

North/West towards Liberia, Puntarenas
It s pretty easy to hitchike out of Heredia to the west and then hitting the Panamerican highway. You can even try to get to the Toll Station close to the airport and continue from there.
Public transport
Buses to Alajuela and San Jose departuring every 5 - 10 minutes.
