Collaborative Hitchhiking Wiki Hits Milestone

Hitchwiki, a free collaborative guide written by and for hitchhikers, reached 1000 articles on xx date 2008 in its English version. The project started in 2005 and has been growing constantly, now with over 400 hitchhikers who have contributed to the guide from all over the world and 1500 pages articles in 7 languages.

something about the relation between wiki and hitchhiking (the strength of sharing)

quote from Guaka (?)

This milestone also exemplifies the growth of the hitchhiking culture. Each month thousands of people hitchhike all over the world; in many countries it is still a common way of getting around. It is also part of a vibrant culture and a preferred way of traveling, especially among young travelers. In August a hitchhikers gathering in Paris drew together over 150 hitchhikers, an event that was partly coordinated through Hitchwiki.

Hitchwiki is an online hitchhikers sharing-point with information about good hitchhiking spots in more than 200 cities, hitchhiking culture in different countries, general know-how about what to pack, what to eat and how to stay safe. There are hundreds of pages about how to leave cities, often including maps. On Hitchwiki you can also find profiles of hitchhikers, video, blogs, photos and hitchhiking stories.
