Kyiv (Russian: Kiev, German: Kiew), is the capital of Ukraine. Kyiv is a very big city, however it has a very efficient metro (underground) system, especially if you're hitching west or east.

Hitching out

North towards Kharkiv

Get the metro to Boryspolska station (the last one on the green line). From here there is a huge roundabout - walk around the outside of the roundabout until you see the turn off to Kharkiv (XAPKIB in Ukrainian). Walk down the road, and you'll probably see a lot of people also hitching there (there was around 40 last time I did it in the middle of winter), walk to the back of the queue and try to look like you're going a long distance - most people will only be going 30 or 40 kilometres (having a conspicuous backpack helps). Cost to get there: 50 kopecks (1 metro token, which is about 0,10 $)

East towards Dnepropetrovsk (M04)

Take the metro to Vydubychi (ВИДУБИЧІ) station and walk to the car market. Try hitchhiking there. Cost to get there: 50 kopecks

West towards Rivne, Lviv, (M06)

Take the metro to Zhytomyrska (ЖИТОМИРСЬКА) station, from there you need to walk some kilometers. Attention: Girls be careful, in the evening there are prostitutes working, so tell to the driver that you are hitchhiking immediately! Cost to get there: 50 kopecks

South towards Odesa (M05)

Get the metro Lybidska (ЛИБІДСЬКА) station, from there take the trolley bus #2 and go till destination stop Kibcentr (КІБЦЕНТР). Cost to get there: 1 metro token + 1 trolleybus token = 1 UAH = 0,20$
