Luxembourg is a small country in Western Europe, bordered by Belgium, Germany and France. It is a member state of the European Union as well as the Schengen Agreement.

Most people speak the local language, Lëtzebuergish (Luxembourgeois), but also French, German and English fluently.

Luxembourg is a great country to catch a long distance ride, due to its central location in Europe. Many drivers stop here to take advantage of the low duties on fuel, alcohol, and chocolate. Most motorways leaving Luxembourg have a large service area which are the best places to get ongoing lifts. However, much of the traffic are drivers coming from just a few kilometers over the border in matter to get cheaper fuel. Therefore, for long distance ride, it may be wise to have a sign specifying your direction and destination or simply to preselect the drivers according to the immatriculation of their car in matter to have a less frustrating experience.

Local hitchhiking on the countryside of Luxembourg is somewhat less straightforward as hitchhiking is not so common by local inhabitants.

Living

Luxembourg is a very expensive country. Restaurants and accommodation is expensive. The cheapest youth hostel in Luxemburg City will be €20 per night. Luxembourg has a huge financial sector - many banks, insurances etc. As a anti-capitalist you may feel a little cold there ;)
