Hitching Out

East,West towards Berlin, (A2)

  • Take Tram 9 in Magdeburg to direction Neustädter See and get out at Krähenstieg. Walk to the left where you see a lot of old apartment blocks, go right into the street there and after some meters you will recognize the petrol station on the left site. It is directly located along the B71 and is connected with the ramp Magdeburg-Centrum which leads you towards direction Berlin or Hannover.

This service station at the highway entry in the north of Magdeburg can't be recommended. Employers and boss of the station state that it's illegal to start talking to people and will probably call the cops. So get a ride quickly or deal with this kind of shit.

platschi was standing at that petrol station, denying many lifts towards Burg and got one directly to Berlin after 40 minutes of waiting. No employers or boss talked or recommended to him to leave the service station. It seems that there are different opinions about this petrol station.

East towards Berlin (A2), South towards Halle (Saale), Leipzig (A14)

Another option (but including a longer bus ride) is the service station Börde-Süd, a pretty nice starting point for hitchhikers:

  • Go to the central bus station – Damaschkeplatz behind Hauptbahnhof – and take the bus number 615 direction Eichenbarleben. Get out at bus stop Mammendorf (Eichenbarleben). From here you can walk to Börde-Süd. This map may help you; the service station is on the right side at the upper corner.
