Hitching Out

A2, East (Berlin) and West (Braunschweig, Hannover)

North

A14, South (Halle (Saale), Leipzig)

petrol station near Krähenstieg

  • take Tram 9 in Magdeburg to direction Neustädter See
  • get out at Krähenstieg
  • walk to the left where you see a lot of old apartment blocks and go right into the street there
  • after some meters you will recognize the petrol station on the left side.

It is directly located along the B71 and is connected with the ramp Magdeburg-Centrum which leads you towards direction Berlin or Hannover.

Be careful: Some people reported that employees of the station told them to leave because "it is forbidden to talk to the car owners". They tried to make the hitchhikers leave and threatened to call the police. There are speculations that this depends on the daytime, your appeareance and the presence of certain employees or the boss.

service station Börde

Another option (but including a longer bus ride) is the service station Börde Süd and Nord, a pretty nice starting point for hitchhikers:

  • go to the central bus station – Damaschkeplatz behind Hauptbahnhof
  • take the bus number 615 direction Eichenbarleben
  • get out at bus stop Mammendorf (Eichenbarleben)
  • from here you can walk to the service station: this map may help you; the service station is on the right side at the upper corner.

You may also:

  • take bus number 618 direction Rottmersleben to Groß Santersleben
  • form here you should take the Mammendorfer Weg (direction southwest)
  • you will first see the service station Börde Nord (A2 westbound)
  • after you've passed the bridge you will find a path to Börde Süd (A2 eastbound and A14) on the left side
