The Milhosť-Tornyosnémeti border crossing joins Hungary (near the village of Tornyosnémeti) and Slovakia (near the village of Milhosť). It lies on the E71 and is the common route between the Slovak city Košice and the Hungarian city Miskolc.

Because both Hungary and Slovakia are part of the Schengen zone, cars no longer have to stop at this border crossing. However, the layout of the road forces them to slow down. There is also a parking lot for trucks. The only amenities on the border are an insurance office and a café that is closed more often than not.

Hitchhiking out

Whether you are going north or south, it is best to stand and thumb on the Hungarian side where cars have sufficient room to pull over on the side of the road.
