If you are going to coastline, you can also ask a ride to leave you to the Km 80 of the "Freeway", to ask for another ride there, at the gas station Petrobras Graal Rota 80.
It's not allowed to ask a ride near the fuel pumps but you can do it on exit of the gas station, when the drivers slow down.

You could contact these CS members at https://www.couchsurfing.org or going to the weekly meeting of this guys, which occurs every thursday at 719:00 pm, in the place called "Shamrock Irish Pub", at Vieira de Castro Street, 32 at the Farroupilha District (near Redenção park).
