* Take '''Tram Nr.6''' from the city centre (stop called ''Merķeļa iela'') to the final stop called '''Jugla''' - there you will find the road to the North including gas station for asking, traffic-light and bus stop, McDonalds (toilet). But it is not too god idea to hitchhike after speed limit sign 70 - cars are already going quite fast and stopping car can cause a crash. Note, that about 750 metres farther (after crossing bridge) from the traffic light is a nice big layby where cars can stop. If you're heading for Estonia have an EST sign - it will make all go a lot quicker.

Riga is the capital of Latvia.

Heading South

Towards Bauska, Kaunas, Vilnius

If you want to get towards the south then best way is to get out of the city center first. There are several possibilities:

  • Take Tram Nr.10 towards Bisumuiza (Bišumuiža) and get out at the stop Ziepniekalna iela. You will see a gas station just around the corner. Asking people there is usually more successsful than standing at the street.
  • Take Bus Nr.23 (opposite Stockmann shopping center, stop called 13.janvāra iela) towards Balozi (Baloži). Before the bus turns right to Balozi at the stop Sūkņu stacija go off and you've got a traffic light and a bus stop for stopping cars - everyone's going towards Bauska!
  • Take a Microbus to Kekava (Ķekava) from Central Bus Station, go by bus till Kekava and take there the main road E67/A7 in the direction of Bauska. Just find a good spot and good luck!

Time schedules for transport:

  • Riga -> Kekava. Translate page to English and enter in the fields From: Riga and To: Kekava. In Notes column Kursē: 1234--- means on which weekdays the bus cruises.
  • Tram Nr.10. From column "Centrāltirgus - Bišumuiža" and choose the name of the stop from which you are planning to go. Most likely it will be Centrāltirgus - Central market near the Central Bus Station.
  • Bus Nr.23. From column "Abrenes iela - Baloži" and choose the name of the stop from which you are planning to go.

Darba diena means Week day, Sestdiena means Saturday and Svētdiena means Sunday.

Towards Jelgava

Cross the main bridge southwards, you can walk, but possibly there is a nice bus or minibus you can take. You keep on going until there is a crossroad with the A7 (not sure...) highway to Jelgava.

Heading North

Towards Pärnu, Tallinn (Estonia)

  • Take Tram Nr.6 from the city centre (stop called Merķeļa iela) to the final stop called Jugla - there you will find the road to the North including gas station for asking, traffic-light and bus stop, McDonalds (toilet).
