Rostock is a city in the north-east of Germany.

Hitchhiking out

South towards Berlin

Take bus number 23 from the central station in Rostock. Go out at exit Brinckmansdorf. After 20 meters there is a Total service station. Behind it you find a traffic light directly in front of the ramp Rostock Süd to the A19 direction Berlin or A20 towards Hamburg. There seems to be enough space for cars to stop.

This is a terrible place and there is NOWHERE for a car to stop. We tired here for 2 hours and nothing. Also rideshares are very popular so many cars are actually full.

West towards Hamburg

If going to Hamburg, one may use a sign reading HH, otherwise most of the people who will stop are going to Berlin. Politely decline offers to take you to the A20 junction, as that is motorway and one is not permitted to walk on it.

North towards Scandinavia

The ferries leave every two hours. You can get to the port by taking Bus 40 from the main station or Kröpeliner Tor to 'Rostock Fähre', or the S3 from the main station to 'Seehafen Nord'. The bus will cost 2.50EUR more than a normal ticket and comes with every ferry. But if you take the S-Bahn, you will have to walk a bit.

Check timetables here: [1].

Denmark

Just follow the signs for the ferry to Gedser. If no one picks you up, the passenger fee of 7.50EUR is reasonable.

Sweden and Finland

The ferries to Trelleborg and Helsinki charge based on the number of passengers, but maybe you can make a deal with a driver. Check fares here: [2]. trash:Rostock
