Santa Elena de Uairen is a city in the south of Bolivar state, Venezuela near the border with Brazil.
It is generally considered safer than the rest of the country, and as such hitchhiking is fairly common in this area. Lots of people have pick-up trucks and don't mind letting people hop in the back. A lot of Brazilians go here for buying things cheaper. It is also a starting point for hikes to the Roraima Tepuy.
