:It says "pointing to the ground with the hand far from the body", which is probably similar to what worked for [[amylin]] and me in [[Thailand]], [[Laos]] and [[China]]. We also used to slowly wave. Sometimes a bit more frantically, if there hadn't been a single car passing in 2 hours time. Also, Russian hitchhikers are known to hitchhike like that all the time.
