I'm an Israeli, I've hitchhiked here several times, and I've never heard of or seen a hitchhiker "point his thumb down". Where is this info from? I think I'll remove it. Volland 23:21, 18 July 2007 (CEST)

It says "pointing to the ground with the hand far from the body", which is probably similar to what worked for amylin and me in Thailand, Laos and China. We also used to slowly wave. Sometimes a bit more frantically, if there hadn't been a single car passing in 2 hours time. Also, Russian hitchhikers are known to hitchhike like that all the time. Guaka 11:48, 19 July 2007 (CEST)
Ok, I stand corrected. However I've still never seen a hitchhiker in Israel do this gesture - only the usual raising of the thumb. Where is your info from? Volland 21:48, 20 July 2007 (CEST)
Oh, sorry, I didn't get it. A CouchSurfer just corrected me. Nevermind. :) Volland 00:59, 22 July 2007 (CEST)
