Restructuring

The E80 east isn't just for Ankara, but for pretty much everywhere in Asian Turkey and the route to Georgia. Maybe better to change the heading to "East into Asia". Also, do we really need so many spots to hitch out? I say we pick one or two that works for everyone and doesn't involve kilometres of urban hitchhiking (I'd recommend Gebze, worked for me in 3 minutes). CRCulver

Sure, feel free to change the heading. I think it's not a bad idea to have many spots, as long as all of them work well. Depending on where in Istanbul you are, you might want to chose the closest place. Istanbul is soo huge. Still, I wouldn't mind if you remove bad spots. --MrTweek 15:01, 19 October 2010 (CEST)

those

I'd actually propose to leave a place for bad spots, just describe them briefly in one heading. Will probably save people time. And will avoid those spots being added back again. It's probably a good idea in general, to leave space for bad spots, sometimes I ask my hosts what spot they recommend and sometimes those spots are bad, it'd be nice to see that immediately when looking at a Hitchwiki page. guaka 15:25, 19 October 2010 (CEST)
I'd agree that all spots be kept. It's better to have more options—not only for picking the nearest spot (or the spot easiest to get to from where you are—Istanbul's traffic is generally absurdly congested), but also for picking the right spot depending on what you exactly want to do (i.e., hitch for an hour while you're in the city to spend as little money as possible; or get out of city as quickly as possible no matter how much the public transport costs). Gebze option removed

This month at least, the train doesn't do to Gebze because of repairs, and the rerouting of the motorway means that one can't reach the petrol station 9 km before Izmit. Consequently, I've removed the following option:

Get on a ferry to Haydarpaşa (1,75 TL) and from there a suburban train to the last station Gebze (also 1,75 TL). There is only one train line. After you walk up the train station stairs and come to the street, go left and at the intersection turn left again. You'll see a signpost for the Istanbul-Ankara road. Follow the signs, and you can hitch from where the road branches off with the sign "Izmit Ankara". There is little long-distance traffic here, so get a lift going to Izmit and get out at the service station 9 km before Izmit.

If someone learns that the situation has changed, they can restore this in the article. CRCulver 09:47, 17 August 2012 (CEST)
