(a) No person shall stand in a roadway for the purpose of soliciting a ride or employment from the occupant of any vehicle.
Department Policy: State of Tennessee Department of TransportationDefinitions: Roadyway - the portion of a highway intended for vehicular use. Based on the definition of roadway, soliciting rides from the shoulder or berm may be illegal. It is legaladvised that one hitchhikes from the grass, off the paved portion of a road.
