On 19 June 2014 while in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park a ranger told me , in certain terms, that hitching is legal within the park. longstride

Hitched through Tennessee a few times back in 2013 never had too much trouble, but it certainly wasn't extremely easy. Eastern Tennessee is beautiful and friendly and much easier hitchhiking. Thewindandrain (talk) 18:14, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

I love this state, except Nashville and anywhere near Nashville, stay out of Franklin, but the people are great,I've been picked up by good ole boys to meth queens, and if you look decent people will look out for you, people still have that southern hospitality outlook there-token

Me and a friend just hitched from Asheville, N.C to Johnson city, and got loads of hassle from the cops. apparently there is a city ordinance against hitchhiking (and panhandling, which they thought we were doing even though we weren't). don't stop here unless you want to stay a while. - Magpie
