:It was quite easy though sometimes I had to wait quite long. Also, be prepared that though it will not get dark, but there will be less and less cars coming. This hitching took me almost 2 days. I met really great people, usually locals. Be aware: bring some extra food and water, in case you get dropped off between Lødingen and Fiskefjorden. There is nothing there and I read a funny story about this track. In the old times the Swedish people wanted to go to Norway and take over the land, but they didn't think of that there was no food supply on this area, so they all died passing this way and could not take over Norway .. imagine how I felt when I realized that I got dropped off there. Fortunately some old lad picked me up who thought that my car had broken down... But it was fun and a great experience.

To get out of Tromsø on the E8 cross the bridge and walk on to the roundabout. However, Taylor believes that standing by the roundabout is a HORRIBLE spot because there is nowhere to pull over. Stand just after the bridge where local buses stop or walk approximately 1-2 km past the roundabout to a big car dealership/factory and stand on their turning lane. Thor-Rune agrees with Taylor, DON'T stand in the roundabout, people can't stop without making a traffic jam. He hitchhiked from just past the esso station after the bridge.

:I also recommend hitchhiking on the Lofoten Islands in General, as theres usually only one main street, it's really easy.

User:xnothingxheldxbackxHitched into and out of Tromso. IMHO standing by the roundabout is a HORRIBLE spot. Nowhere to pull over. Stand just after the bridge where local buses stop or walk mabe 2km past the round-a-bout to a big car dealership/factory and stand on their turning lane (This is where I stood, 4th car turned around and picked me up).

You can stand by Polaria / sentrum south tunnel with a sign to kvaløya, but the definitely best is to just walk the 10-15 minutes over the island and stand on the road that leads to kvaløya, by the airport or preferably if you're not too lazy walk to the bridge becaus there is the first place cars can stop properly.

Hitchhiking out

South/East towards all directions

To get out of Tromsø on the E8 cross the bridge and walk on to the roundabout. However, Taylor believes that standing by the roundabout is a HORRIBLE spot because there is nowhere to pull over. Stand just after the bridge where local buses stop or walk approximately 1-2 km past the roundabout to a big car dealership/factory and stand on their turning lane. Thor-Rune agrees with Taylor, DON'T stand in the roundabout, people can't stop without making a traffic jam. He hitchhiked from just past the esso station after the bridge.

Towards kvaløya

You can stand by Polaria / sentrum south tunnel with a sign to kvaløya, but the definitely best is to just walk the 10-15 minutes over the island and stand on the road that leads to kvaløya, by the airport or preferably if you're not too lazy walk to the bridge becaus there is the first place cars can stop properly.
