It's an important motorway hub when hitchhiking east-west (or vice versa). The M7 motorway links the city to Kazan and Moscow and the M5 motorway links Ufa to Moscow and to the asian part of Russia.

It seems to be pretty difficult to hitch rides from the M5 onto the M7 (and vice versa), so if considering hitchhiking to Moscow (coming from the east) one should consider if it's worth the time to go through the whole city or hitch further along the M5, which might be some 200 km more to travel.

There's lot's of traffic passing the DPS police post along the M5 south-west of Dema, but most traffic seems to drive only towards nearby settlements.

West towards Moscow, Kazan

East towards Chelyabinsk, Ural mountains, West towards Samara

Take Bus Nr. 110 from the city center into the direction airport. It takes you about 30min to the bus stop "Kafe Otdyh". You will pass by under the M5, so you can easily know when to get out - from the station you have to walk back for about 200m until you reach the M5. You can stay directly after the driveway.
