Uruapan is a city in Mexico.
Hitchhiking out
East towards Patzcuaro, Morelia
From the city center, take a local bus towards Caltzontzin (it's written Caltzontzin on the front window of the bus). Ask the driver to drop you off at the last gas station ("la última gasolinera" in Spanish).
When you get off the bus, walk east 100m and you'll indeed see a gas station, which is pretty small. But this one is NOT the furthest one, just walk 400m more east and you'll see another one, bigger and with many more cars.
From this gasolinera ask a ride for the toll booth (14km east), "la siguiente caseta" in Spanish. If your ride isn't going further then get down at the toll booth and it's fairly easy to get another ride from there too.
