24, living in Deventer, the Netherlands, a small city somewhere on the road between Amsterdam and Berlin. Hitchhiking since July 2011. Originally saw it as a cheap, flexible and fun way to get around, since I grew tired of having to buy train/plane tickets to my girlfriend all the time and have to stick to that schedule. I also enjoy making drivers think, consider and hopefully decide differently than they're used too ;)
I wrote this in 2012:
"I enjoy beating my own records and trying to hitchhike as fast as possible without making any 'mistakes' which make me lose time. Basically I just love the tactics and strategy behind it all. Although sometimes of course it's nice to just enjoy being out, taking your time and letting luck take over."
I still love fast long-distance hitching, but I started appreciating just standing at the roadside with my thumb up, smiling and waiting for that one great ride. And if it doesn't come, just pitching the tent early for a long night of sleep!

- Meaningful conversations with drivers
- Combining hitchhiking with exploring the outdoors (Rural hitching?)
- Free food
- Poland

So far hitchhiked 71.465km (May 2014) in the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Hungary, Great Britain, France, Denmark, Sweden, Ukraine, Andorra, Spain (only one ride but hey, it counts.), Liechtenstein and Italy.
