Revision as of 21:42, 20 September 2008

The only rule in Robin's house is that there are no rules, just some guidelines for sustainability:

  • The house does not like dead animals nor fish;
  • You take what you need and share what you want;
  • Once you are in the house, you share the house;

As a guest: be a host!

  • Open the door when the doorbell rings
  • Welcome new people to the house
  • Think of others first, before you think of yourself

  • Edit this page!

Guest-material

  • A big box in the guest-room with sheets, towels and covers. Take what you need and wash it when it is dirty.
  • Many sleeping bags. Some are under the sofa in the living room, others in the guest-box.
  • Four spare bikes. One more needs to be repaired, another one is missing a key to the lock. Keys are in the key-box in the kitchen.
  • Keys: there are two sets of spare-keys. When there are more guests, please think what is best for the situation if you decide who takes those keys.
  • Sleeping, there are many sleeping places. If there are many guests, best thing is to think together who wants to sleep where. If there are many guests, first sleepers go to the attic (same key as for the house).
  • There are many books, about traveling, politics, .. Feel free to read.

Tech

  • A desktop computer for general use running GNU/Linux. Login details are on the keyboard and you might also be able to use the same login details on laptops and if you're staying for a longer time you're encourage to create a guest account as well.
  • Wireless and enough cables. Password can be guessed but it is written on the router for the impatient.

Keeping stuff clean

The house is at its best when it is tidy. If you feel like cleaning something: clean it. This especially counts for the living room, kitchen and bathroom. There are no obligations, just common courtesy.

  • It's common to take off your shoes at the entrance.
  • Clean windows give a clear view to the world.
  • The drainage on the balcony is still stuck. Take two empty buckets of water; use one to fill the other and empty it in the toilet.

Garbage

  • In Amsterdam there is not a lot of garbage separation. They think it is more efficient to separate afterwards.
  • Most stuff can be brought right outside, any time. You can put the garbage-bags in the container in front of the house.
  • Turn right and at the end of the street you'll find recycling boxes for paper and glass.
  • Glass with refund goes to the supermarkets: some beer bottles. Organic juice bottles go to the organic store.
  • Big trash can be put outside next to the garbage bins from Monday's 9pm until Tuesday 10am.
  • Check Trashwiki

Provisioning

Preferably at organic stores.

  • Toilet paper
  • Organic dish washing stuff (at Albert Heijn: Klok)
  • Laundry detergent

Food

  • Breakfast: turn left twice, there is a nice bakery. Turn right twice, there is a small supermarket
  • No dead animals (no meat or fish)
  • Check what's there, what you can use and what is missing
  • When you make food, make enough for everyone.

Always make sure there is:

  • Rice, pasta
  • Garlic, onions, ginger
  • Olive oil, sunflower oil
  • Some vegetables

There are three types of mayonnaise and no one seems to eat it. So please don't buy more until at least 2 of these are finished.
