Did you pass through Nashville while in the SE? I got cited there, and the cop said it was Davidson County protocol to cite anyone attempting to hitchhike regardless of where they were standing. : Can understand that for sure.  Not sure a "trespassing" citation would be any better than a citation for hitching, but doesn't remove the fact that in either case, it's a crock.  Harmless, clean cut, and gainfully employed individual, you'd think the law enforcement would show some mercy.  Luckily, I didn't have any bad experiences hitching around the south/southeast.  Was hassled by the police only twice, in Texas and Louisiana but nothing came of either encounter, because I had an ID and no felonies, and I didn't stink (too badly, anyhow).  I think also my Navy background aided me, in addition to the fact that I was hitchhiking by choice and for pleasure.  A bad experience once can certainly be offputting for a long time, seems as though you're enjoying yourself abroad, so keep it up!  Maybe you're onto something, perhaps the United States isn't the greatest nation in the world, as we're sometimes told... Hey nice to meet you Drew, glad you had a good experience hitching the US. I have no means of transportation within the Kansas City area, but I often hitch out of Blue Springs when I go east so I will let you know next time I am passing through there! I also saw that you are moving to Oregon in the fall, I plan on exploring Oregon by thumb more thoroughly in the years to come. : Hi Kyle, I certainly had a great experience, and I've still got the whole rest of the summer to explore, so I'm not done yet!  I'm doing a few weeks of traveling in the southwestern US, for which I'm leaving tomorrow.  After that, in late June, I'm going to head up towards Michigan, and then over through the northern plains states and into Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming (possibly even out to California, if time allows)  Although Blue Springs is my hometown, I'm only here for the summer, just transitioning between CT (where I was for Navy things) and OR (for college), and I'm out more than I'm in just due to all the hitching & various music festivals/traveling.  Are you  here in KC for the whole summer?  I have transportation available when I'm here... I'm certain we could work something out.  If nothing else, I'm sure you could find me when you make it out towards Portland! --Aawmson (talk) 07:23, 18 May 2013 (CEST)

::Hitting the road again June 21st. Will be through KC periodically after that, but I'm moving home base to New Mexico. When you go through the southwest I recommend Utah hwy 95, and Zion National Park. But then again, I travel for different reasons and tend to avoid paces with people and festivals. When going up to the great lakes, check out the "driftless area" and then the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. When in Montana, US hwy 212 going towards Yellowstone is often considered the prettiest road in America. Happy trails! Did you pass through Nashville while in the SE? I got cited there, and the cop said it was Davidson County protocol to cite anyone attempting to hitchhike regardless of where they were standing. See the article I wrote afterward. Maybe you have more to add. CRCulver (talk) 04:55, 15 May 2013 (CEST)

I did pass through Nashville, came straight up I-24 from Chattanooga, but I picked up a ride in Murfreesboro (which I think is in Williamson County, just below Davidson County), and he brought me all the way to Ashland City, on the NW side of Nashville. I stayed near Ashland City with a friend for a couple days, then hitched out of there on I-24 up to St. Louis, so I think I may have bypassed Davidson County in it's entirety. I guess maybe I just was lucky, and you weren't... either way, sounds like bullshit! 'Protocol', of course it was. --Aawmson (talk) 05:07, 15 May 2013 (CEST)
The officer was pretty upfront that this was one of his department's usual ways of harrassing the city's noticeable homeless population -- if I had been only walking with my backpack instead of thumbing, he said, he would have cited me for trespassing on state property instead -- and that their policy wasn't meant for well-kempt and employed people like myself, but "rules are rules". Anyway, I'm happy to never go back to the US now. CRCulver (talk) 05:23, 15 May 2013 (CEST)
Can understand that for sure. (hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!) --Aawmson (talk) 07:20, 15 May 2013 (CEST)

Hi Kyle, I certainly had a great experience, and I've still got the whole rest of the summer to explore, so I'm not done yet!
