Welcome on hitchwiki, thanks for all the contributions you already made, we hope to see many more in the future.

On a personal note, if you're chasing records you might want to have a look at my pages, like you I'm someone who mostly travels for travel's sake, trying to cover as much distance as possible in very short periods. Try breaking my "Quality" record of 159,822 (or in normal language: 3,402.2 km in three days, 22 rides with a driving time of just 27:26) Prino 21:53, 14 January 2012 (CET)

Hey Koen, welcome to hitchwiki! if you're interested in strategy and the-like, you might enjoy the competitive autostop sports idea :) I'm kind of organizing things with DTSG, if you're interested, drop me a line, I'm just around the corner in Enschede. --Platschi 13:01, 18 January 2012 (CET)

Hi! thanks for the warm welcome :) I already checked some of your records, Prino, pretty hardcore! I haven't tried sleeping at service stations yet, but if I ever have to at least I know how ;) As for the competive side, I'm really interested in it and already checked out the DTSG website. I'm currently studying in Enschede so if we could meet up that would be great! Something else, is there any way to change my username? :P Koendev 16:17, 18 January 2012 (CET)

Upgrade of status

Given the fact that you're doing a lot of good work, and the fact that I don't want to patrol everything you're doing, I've just upgraded you to admin status. It means you now also give us a hand in beating the spammers by blocking their accounts and by deleting the link-spam they are trying to add. You can also patrol pages via the Special:RecentChanges, click on the diff link and if the changes look OK, click on the [Mark as patrolled] link.

When you block spammers, via the block option reachable via the Special:RecentChanges page, tick all boxes. As for the spammy pages, when you delete them replace the description on the Content was box with just Spam, don't give them the pleasure of leaving part of the spam reachable by search engines.

As for spammers, you can pre-empt them from actually entering spam by blocking them before they become active. This will require some experience, but have a look at Special:Log/block and you can get a gist of the names they use to register. If in doubt, block them after the act. If you block them before they have done anything, use the Unacceptable username option. For names that might conceivably be legit, I occasionally enter them in Google. If they do not appear anywhere in the search results, they are most likely not legit. On occasion, if they are spammers, they might register on many other forums at the same time and if those search results reveal spam, I mercilessly block them. If the only Google occurrence of a name is in the US Census results, the probability that you're dealing with a spammer is about 99.99%.

Your question about external links
