:hey, just updated the image. Thanks! Got it from Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Schengen_Agreement_map.svg] :-) Unfortunately, we don't have this nice image label feature (yet), but who knows... :) --[[User:Platschi|Platschi]] 15:58, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Platschi! I tried to change the boxes but cause I didn't have a hitchwiki account when I wrote them , I can't edit them. The owner is anonymous. So, find the city calles Jyväskylä. There are 3 thumbs in the map, the wrong texts are: "E63/9/23 westwards..." should be "E63/9/23 east- and southwards...". "West- and southwards..." should be "East- and southwards". I'm such an idiot sometimes :). Btw, do need some help translating the phrase book in Finnish? I could do that if it hasn't been done yet. Anyways, thank you for your help! Annika

Hey Ralf! Welcome on hitchwiki, cool to see you here :) I guess you have something more to contribute ;) --MrTweek 10:02, 25 June 2007 (CEST)

Another welcome! :) I'm looking forward to your contributions! You can sign messages on talk pages with ~~~~. Guaka 20:41, 25 June 2007 (CEST)

Hey, When you were hitchhiking in Serbia did you do a lot of camping? I'm a bit concerned about camping in places like Serbia and Croatia, where they apparently have unexploded mines still lying around in various places. Do you know if these are quite common and/or if the areas are closed off or what? Thanks! :) It'd be nice to camp out in the wild there but I don't fancy having an 'explosive' time!

Hey Platschi! Thanks for your welcome message:) Sorry if I'm writing in the wrong place. I just discovered hitchwiki, what an amazing resourse! I am planning my first-ever hitchhiking trip to Western Europe in April-May. It is a bit scary, but I'm finding a lot of useful information here. As of yet, I don't have much to contribute, but wait till I get there! :=)) --Serge Kosh 21:36, 19 March 2008 (CET)

Sysop

We don't really have a policy about this, but MrTweek and I decided to "promote" some more people to sysops on the wiki. Of course we noticed your great contributions and decided to make you into a sysop :) Check project:administrators to read (a little bit) more about this. Guaka 21:08, 7 August 2007 (CEST)

Thanks! :) (Not sure if I'm posting my reply in the correct place here.) How was hitchhiking in the Balkans? Do you recommend solo hitchhiking at all? I'm starting to wonder if hitchhiking by myself for my first time could be a bad idea and become lonely, but I'm sure it would give me more opportunities for meeting people along the way! Myshkin 15:06, 13 August 2007 (CEST)

thanks

thanks for welcome yep, more I'm hitching more I'm writing--Jonathaneo 17:06, 2 October 2007 (CEST)

Nice to feel welcome

Hey, Platschi!

My pleasure writing to Hitchwiki. The more people know, the better are the trips - more they travel and more drivers trust us : ) Let's make hitch-hiking big like "in the old days" some drivers mention : )

Merry Christmas and safe travels! Rein

Hey Platschi! Thanks for the welcome-message! I am completely new in contributing in wikis, but it's nice to see it works! See you some day in real life (-: cee

Eh Thanks a lot, I was just at the same time reading and trying to create my first region table... so it has been doubled. Way not managed to make it look like yours... anyhow I don't think I will ever try to make table or impossible things as such anymore. Maplefanta 18:21, 30 December 2007 (CET) BTW, my skype username is the same if that would ease talking... Maplefanta 18:32, 30 December 2007 (CET)

hi platschi! thanks for your welcome message. i discovered hitchwiki three days ago. good idea! sometimes navigation is a bit difficult. hard to find the correct buttons. for example, how can i send you a private message/mail? congratulations to your serbia hitching! i crossed the country in 2003 on my way to istanbul (spielfeld-istanbul 3 days in the same truck) and hitched in 2004 from southern serbia (usce) to prishtina. in september 07 i was in sandjak and crna gora. still wild country in many aspects. if you cross thru regensburg, show up for a coffee. cheers, scheuer.

questions

- is this a riddle? i can not get this... ;-) --Alex 01:34, 27 February 2008 (CET)
No, we just had a driver who was riding that fast. :-) platschisite, wikitalk 14:03, 27 February 2008 (CET)
By "riding fast", you mean "driving quickly". In English, "riding" is used to for bicycles, horses, or motorcycles, but not cars. Anyway, that is fast! :) amylin
  • Why do you make statistics about your trips ? Thx MiSha 20:06, 27 August 2008 (CEST)
hey, i don't know...gives me a good overview of times needed from place x to y, average rides on different routes etc. See for example Enschede-Hörstel, 60km,but inkl. border crossing, highway, no service stations, but nearly never takes me more than 1hour and almost approx. 3 lifts...and it's kind of addiction, collecting more and more kilometers ;D platschisite, wikitalk 14:00, 30 August 2008 (CEST)
Of course you know that in that view, it will bring you some self-estimation but if you give that number for geographical studies, it become very useful, some people studi hitchhike they are searching that kind of numbers MiSha 14:55, 2 September 2008 (CEST)

Why do you work on Hitchwiki?

Hey Platschi, I'm curious to know, why you work on Hitchwiki? :) guakasite, wikitalk 12:14, 3 September 2008 (CEST)

WC

Template:WC

Well, actually MrTweek uploaded the image to the wiki. But anyway, on German highways you often see this sign, showing you to the next parking area with some sanitary building. Guess it was intended to be used on one of the highway articles, like A2 (Germany) or something. Just leave it there, we'll use it for sure someday ;) Nice work with the cleanup anyway :) platschisite, wikitalk 00:42, 4 September 2008 (CEST)

Mistake in the french hitchwiki

Hi, I don't know if you have some admin rights in this wiki but I try, there is a big mistake in the french version. On the left there is Acceuil (=home) in the english version. It should be Accueil.--Kimdime69 12:15, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey Kim, I called the police, they're fixing the problem ;) --Platschi 12:37, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Woop, woop that the sound of da police:) Ok cool I will sleep better tonight ;) --Kimdime69 13:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Fucking french language :) --MiSha 14:52, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Log page

Hi Ralf. Do you know if there is already an index page for hitchhikers logs? It could be created. --Fverhart 22:21, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

No, I guess not. Feel free to start a page, somethink like Hitchwiki:Logs, with maybe an overview of all logs or where everyone can add his one :-) Cheers, --Platschi 00:21, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
I just started one at Logs --MrTweek 14:05, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Categories

Hi! Your user page category has been changed to Category:Hitchhikers in Germany because from now on this (along with the old Category:Hitchhikers) will be a standard categorization for hitchhikers on hitchwiki.org (see this discussion here for the reasons of doing so). If for some reason you don't want to be categorized by country, feel free to delete country category on your page leaving only a standard Category:Hitchhikers. We hope you don't mind, though.

Happy hitching,

The hitchwiki team

christmas & turkish trucks

Normally, they should not have off and drive as Muslims do not celebrate Christmas, but Eid al-Adha / Kurban Bayramı that was this year beginning of December. However, it might be that they do not drive to/from Christian places as the companies are closed there. I try to think of it and asked around the next couple of days as I will come up this route the next days. --Alex 18:36, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey alex, thanks for picking up some info! I'm starting on the 27th, going via Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, towards BG. For what I know is that Serbians celebrate christmas on 7 January, but Croatians and Bulgarians on 25/26th. Confusing! :) So maybe crossing Serbia might not be a problem. We'll see. Good luck on the last kilometers home, and please also report about current weather conditions in the Balkans! Cheers, --Platschi 14:09, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I do not have any information about the trucks as I had none with a truck. However, hitching was fairly simple as everybody was in Christmas mood. Weather was fine (except for Turkey where it was raining when I wanted to start) and the streets free, however, the week earlier there was a snow chaos and for the next days they report some snow in Eastern Austria... so check the news, plan short and organise accommodation in a couple of cities (e.g. Wien and Belgrade). Have now some nice days and then a good trip! --Alex 11:03, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

I've updated the Schengen Agreement but I don t know where to get a new Picture with Schengen states (http://hitchwiki.org/en/Image:Schengen_map.png) Could you find one and updatee it? Fabzgy
