Go to Avinguda del Cid, and cross the bridge and actually the A3 starts from here, but the problem is, that you cannot go there because there are fences everywhere. You can chose to hitchhike before the bridge where there is a bus stop or place for the cars to stop, or try [http://maps.google.com/maps?near=39.472222,-0.431092 this place]. It is under the "bridge" that crosses above the A3, and there are two petrol stations, and lot of cars pass there (though, a lot of them are going to Manises). I've waited for a little more than an hour, but in Spain I usually count that you have to wait at least an hour.
Go to El Ponte (The Bridge); they have a shower, WC,... Also; if you're staying there overnight, sleep on the concrete shed for whatever it is. It isn't dirty, it's bg, flat, temperature isn't a problem in the summer, you're up 2,5 meters, thus you won't be mugged. Had one of the best sleeps of my life there.
Plenty of truckers coming from the north and heading to Madrid stop there!
