Hi everybody I'm Sebastian, a Colombian guy living in Patagonia. I'm new here but I'm currently carry out a travel across the Andes border Chile-Argentina from Chubut-Los Lagos to Tierra del Fuego using Carretera Austral and Ruta 40 in Arg and Chile respectively. I hope I can share some of the experience hitchhiking the region. I traveled hitchiking before between Bariloche-Esquel-Futaleufú several times and it was mainly easy, just wait for half-one hour. El Bolson is kinda paradise to hitchhike and usually the locals do it for move around the town and the outskirts. You can hitchhike easily from Esquel to Alerces National Park from the deviation of the road to Trevelin and inside the park hitchhike is not only usual but needed due to the irregular public transportation service. People in the park (usually locals) are used to pick up people on the road. Trevelin to Futaleufú is so possible that even I was pick up with three guys more (four man seems really unkind) for a friendly chileno that even wait for us in the border to continue traveling. Patagonia is really expensive in comparison to Colombia, but Couchsurfing and hitchhiking make really possible to keep on moving so you can save money to attractions, tickets for ferries and national parks, tours and different sports as ski, rafting, climbing or any other outdoor-indoor activity. But take into account take enough money for food that is expensive and scarce in some small villages and towns in the region. I hope to continue sharing my experience in here.
