A liftershalte (also known as liftplaats) is a spot (halte means a stop, like busstop), marked by an official sign, where a hitchhiker can easily be picked up by car drivers. Drivers are aware of these spots and some especially drive to the spot to pick up hitchers from there.
These spots can be found in the Netherlands around several cities, such as:
- Amsterdam
Enschede– no more since 2006.Den Haag– no more (but the location is still suitable to hitch a ride)- Groningen
Maastricht– no more since 2012.- Nijmegen
- Utrecht
- Zoetermeer
- The website Liftershalte.info is named after Liftershalte.
In Hebrew there is the term Trempiada that means a similar thing.
